This essay compares two modern -isms – Afrofuturism and cyberfeminism – and the ways they queer our usual perception of spatial and temporal realities. Using tropes derived from science fiction or the internet, both of these artistic and socio-political ideologies shift the classical ways of embodiment to a realm that is rather imagined, speculative and non-corporeal. These concepts also oppose the linear and chronological timeline, main protagonists of these narratives – would it be an astronaut, a cyborg, or a woman – create their own empowering (hi)stories. In the current mechanical age, we can all become genderless, timeless, and ready to explore cyber- and outer-space to offer an alternative to contemporary times.
